How we do it

Tile vs shingle vs metal
Tile. Concrete and clay tile is porous, so algae roots into it rather than sitting on top. We apply the cleaning solution at low pressure with a surfactant that helps it cling and soak in, give it time to work, and rinse gently. Nothing forceful touches the tile, so there's no cracking and no worn-off finish.
Shingle. Asphalt shingles are never pressure washed. The granules on them are what protect the roof from the sun, and pressure strips them off. We apply the solution, let it dwell long enough to kill the Gloeocapsa magma, and rinse lightly.
Metal. Metal roofs come clean quickly but streak if solution dries on them in the sun. We work in sections and rinse thoroughly, so the finish comes out even.
